As a Sunset editor, I make every attempt to be on top of my field. But in an area as personal as home design, it’s the homeowners that often surprise me with new ideas and sources. Case in point: When I talked to Randy Hild about the mid-century modern home he and his wife remodeled (that’s their living room above), I remarked on his awesome taste in furniture. He surprised me by saying he bought a large portion of it off Instagram. “It’s a great source. There’s a younger generation of dealers in their 20s and 30s who list there exclusively,” he says.

Of course, I asked him for his top follows so we could all shop like Randy does. You can see the rest of his house in our September issue, out August 24.

1. Danish Modern L.A.
The digital outpost of the popular L.A. shop—and the best funky chair collection on the Internet by our measure.

2. The Modern Vault
All the standards—early Saarinen tables and Danish teak rockers—plus an impressive amount of tapestries and paintings.

3. Radical Relics
Fans of the conical Preway fireplace, this is your happy place. Fans of ceramics—it’s also yours.

4. modernmanor
Skip SoCal prices and buy large-scale furniture (with a focus on complete sets) from this Arizona shop.

5. Post-War Modern
If your tastes range to the ‘60s, ‘70s, and beyond, look no further. The weird (but cool) stuff is here.
