Airstream Motel With Rock ‘n’ Roll Cred
When Kate Pierson of the B-52′s opened a West Coast outpost of her popular Catskills, New York motel, she knew the fastest way into our Western hearts was to tap our mania for all things Airstream.
Just 6 miles from Joshua Tree, Kate’s Lazy Desert is now a temple of serious silver bullet kitsch. The six vintage ‘streams were restored by ceramic artists Phillip Maberry and Scott Walker (pop culture trivia: their house is the Shaque D’amour used in the B52s’ “Love Shack” video) and bestowed with appropriately wacky names like the Tiki, the Tinkerbell, and the Hairstream. Outside, you’ll find kiddie pools, sculpture, and shaded hammocks surrounded by nothing but desert.
They’re so appropriate for our lifestyle out here that we’re willing to overlook the fact that Kate lives east of the Rockies.
Trailers from $175/night.

I just stayed there — it was FABULOUS! So much fun…so quiet out there. A very unique vacay.
How fabulous! This makes me want to open up my own.
Not a huge surprise.. Nice to see Kate is actually as quirky as I imagined..
Unique, in a really good way!
Next time I head out west, I will be booking an overnight stay at KLM!!!
Looking forward to a vacation in the desert!
Not only my favorite all time Band, but the best place to take a super awesoem vacation!!
Looks like a lot of fun. Great photos too!
What a great place. I stayed there. And must say I slept the best ever on those beds. The desert breez was great, the pool was refreshing. And the whole energy was fantastic!!! Hoping to be back very soon.
