Go Fish: Catch the Next Wave in Gardening
Remember Alejandro? The mushroom farmer from Emily’s season of The Bachelorette? No wait, this is NOT how I want to start this post…

Alejandro and Nikhil of Back to the Roots
Take 2:
Remember Alejandro and Nikhil? The two MBA grads from UC Berkeley who started Back to the Roots, making kits that grow mushrooms out of recycled coffee grounds, all packaged in a sweet little cardboard box? The kit we used extensively in the One Block Diet? The one that was given to me by three different people one Hanukkah because everyone thought it was just soooo up my alley?
Well, they’re at it again. This time they’re tackling aquaponics: Growing edible plants and fish together in a self-contained system. How it works: Fish waste becomes fertilizer for the plants, and the plants filter the water for the fish.

Check it out– their Kickstarter just reached their goal and they hope to have products on shelves by the spring. Go! Watch the video! These two are just brilliant.
I want one! Or three.

Interesting. I am going to research this further. Additional sources of information would have been helpful, but then that is the purpose of the internet.
Hi,
Just happened to get through your blog and I must say you are doing great. I’m a landscape horticulturist from Pakistan, please visit my Horticulture weblog: http://www.hortist.com. Have a nice day
Question is, does it work? Has the system been tested? I’ve grown a small number of fish in a 40-gallon tank filled with aquatic plants and the plants could not “filter” the water fast enough.
Other questions: the basil plants show in the photo require heat and light. How does one keep the tank temperature stable for the fish?
I can’t wait to get my Aquaponic tank! I funded a mere $50 to the project, and I’m glad it’s going to be successful. Well done, guys!
Of course! Has your business partner found love yet, or what? Seemed like a fungi. Hardee har har.
Thanks for the support!!
