Waiting for watermelon

Check out this photo of ‘Tiger Baby’ watermelon that I captured on my iPhone. I am obsessed with the Hipstamatic camera app.

This little puppy isn’t ready just yet. We’ve posted before about how to tell when your melons are ready, so I won’t repeat that information.

Speaking of repeating, let’s hope this doesn’t happen again.

Ok, back outside I go….

I’m reminded of the summer my high school sweetheart and I sat on a bench in my parents’ back yard, eating watermelon and spitting the seeds out into the flower bed.

I forgot all about it until I returned from my first term at college, to find a huge vine growing in that spot. My mother excitedly showed me the perfectly ripe melon waiting for me …… which I immediately spotted as bogus. It was a stripey, and the melon we had eaten months before had been solid green. She admitted to her trick and we ate the melon, laughing at her plot.
