A most impatient gardener — update
Who says that a watched broccoli never ripens? All my peeking and poking hasn’t hurt the “romenesco” one bit.
Just look at this crazy, psychedelic, head of broccoli:
It’s part of the cool season edible garden that has grown from seed into this:
Incredible to think that in a few days it will go from the ground to the kitchen.
I think I’m feeling slightly attached to this garden — not a good habit to get into.

I am so envious of your winter garden and understand completely why you are feeling attached. this is just about the way my garden looks in late August here 1500 feet up the side of the Chugach Mts. in Anchorage, Alaska. We won’t be planting outside until late April to mid May depending on how the global warming trends go this spring. It’s wonderful to know that there are happy green gardens growing somewhere! Love that Romanescu broccoli – first tried it from local farmer’s market last summer. Great with caper lemon sauce.
